What is orthodontic treatment (braces treatment)?

  Orthodontics: It is a specialty of dentistry that tries to prevent and treat position disorders in the alignment of the teeth and deformations in the jaw structure. It is commonly known as braces treatment. The most common problems are crooked teeth or anterior or posterior lower jaw. Orthodontic treatment is applied not only for aesthetic reasons: it is also applied to eliminate problems such as gum diseases, jaw joint problems, chewing functionality, speech disorder. Orthodontic treatment: metal braces, transparent braces (porcelain braces), lingual braces  and transparent plates are used.

What are the disadvantages of metal braces?

The biggest disadvantage of metal braces is their visibility. This often leads to emotional discomfort when wearing them. However, metal braces can be more affordable than other alternatives, and their corrective effect is quite effective, allowing you to straighten your teeth to your desired shape. Furthermore, metal braces are the most impact-resistant type of braces. You can discuss the most appropriate treatment option with your doctor.

What is porcelain braces treatment?

Orthodontics without braces is a dental treatment method used to straighten teeth. It's a popular option, especially for children and teenagers, because it's not visible and requires a less rigorous treatment program.

Is there an age limit for orthodontic treatment?

There is no age limit for orthodontic treatment, but suitability for orthodontic treatment varies across age groups. In childhood and adolescence, teeth and jawbones are still developing, making it easier and faster to achieve results. While orthodontic treatment for adults may be more challenging, it is still possible and can still achieve effective results. Furthermore, orthodontic treatment isn't limited to simply aligning teeth; it can also be used to correct the jaw and facial structure.

Do some teeth need to be extracted during orthodontic treatment?

Pain, discomfort, or aching may be experienced during or after braces are placed. This may be more common at the beginning of treatment but will decrease over time. If the pain or discomfort is severe, you should consult your dentist.

Does orthodox treatment take long?

With braces, you must attend appointments at the appointment intervals specified by your doctor, starting from the beginning of treatment and continuing throughout the treatment period. These intervals are generally 4-8 weeks and may vary throughout the treatment period. The duration of orthodontic treatment depends on the health of the individual's teeth and gums, the severity of the problems requiring treatment, and the individual's compliance with the treatment. Generally, orthodontic treatment lasts between 6 and 24 months. However, more severe problems may require a longer period. Compliance with the treatment helps ensure a quick and successful completion of the treatment.

What should be taken into consideration after wearing braces?

After braces are placed, oral hygiene is important. Food particles trapped between the wires and brackets should be removed. Additionally, hard foods and snacks should be avoided.

Is orthodontic treatment expensive?

Although ordontic treatment varies depending on the treatment method applied, it is not an expensive form of treatment when its long-term benefits are considered.
