Implant Treatment

What is a Dental (dental) Implant?
implant; They are artificial tooth roots that are placed in the jawbone, usually made of titanium material. These tooth roots are long-lasting and life-long screws used to support prostheses. For patients who are in good general health, have healthy gums and have enough bone to support the implants in the jawbone, and perform good oral care, implant application is the first choice of dentists to replace the lost tooth. In some patients, excessive bone loss and the jawbone may not be suitable for implant placement. In such cases, bone transplantation can be performed for implant placement with advanced medical applications. Implants can be applied to people who have lost a single tooth, as well as to people who have lost all their teeth. These treatments should be applied by specialist dentists in a sterile environment, using sterile materials.

How is Dental Implant Application Made?
First, panoramic dental films of the patient are taken. If necessary, 3D tomography is taken. In this way, important information such as the nerve endings of the teeth in the mouth and the position of the tooth in the jawbone are obtained. After the diameter and length of the implant to be made are selected, the area to be implanted is anesthetized with local anesthesia so that our patients do not feel pain. Generally, the amount of anesthesia we do for tooth extraction is sufficient. After anesthesia, the gingiva is lifted, then a small slot is opened to allow the implant to enter the jawbone.

The implant is fixed by screwing into the slot opened in the jawbone, and then a protective cover is placed on the implant with a screw in order for the implant to ossify and to accelerate the healing time of the implanted area. The opened gingiva is closed with sutures. Afterwards, a recovery period of two to three months is recognized. After the waiting period is over, an impression is taken and teeth made of zirconium, emax press or porcelain are made on the dental implant.

There may be slight swelling or color changes on the cheek after the gingival removal (stitched) implant applications. Ice application on the first day reduces swelling, severe pain is not seen. Painkillers recommended by the doctor are sufficient to easily control the pain that may occur on the first day.

What should be considered after the implant is made?

  1. The pads placed on the implanted area should be bitten for 30 minutes. If the bleeding has stopped after 30 minutes, it can be discarded. If the bleeding continues, a new clean tampon is bitten for another half hour. If the bleeding lasts longer, consult your doctor.

For patients who smoke excessively, it becomes very difficult to close the sutures in the wound area.

  4. Edema may occur after the implant operation. This is quite natural. It will be useful to make ice compresses on the operation area intermittently. At the end of the first 72 hours, edema, that is, swelling, gradually decreases.

  5. Normal brushing procedures can be applied to non-operated areas. The teeth in the operation area should be brushed without touching the sutures and gingiva. Approximately two days after the surgery, you should gargle with the mouthwash recommended by your dentist, twice a day, after brushing your teeth in the morning and evening.

If this value is not suitable for making prosthesis on the same day, we wait three months for the implant-bone connection to be completed. At the end of three months, we move on to the prosthesis process. The prosthesis construction phase takes 5-7 days. In cases where the jawbone is insufficient and additional bone augmentation procedures are performed, we wait until the sixth month for the implant to fuse to the bone.

What are the Differences Between Implant Brands, Which Implant Should I Prefer?

Differences between implants, design and surface properties of implants; affects the connection it makes with the jawbone. Different types of surface roughening techniques and different designs of implants have been developed in different implant systems. In addition, the connection systems used to make prostheses on the implant also differ between companies.      The most important point to consider when choosing an implant, especially for foreign implant companies, is how long the company has been working in Turkey. If any problem is encountered in the prosthesis after the implant is made, the company should be able to supply the necessary parts to the physician. The availability of the firm is also important in supplying implant spacers. For example, if an implant brand produced by the company x is applied to the patient, and then that company decides to withdraw from our country for commercial reasons, since the connection parts between the implant and the prosthesis are different, if there is any problem in the patient's prosthesis, healthy prostheses cannot be made for suitable parts. In order to avoid such problems, you can have certified implant applications by choosing brands that have been applied for 20-25 years. It is also very valuable to know how long the implant brand has been applied in order to see the long-term results of the product used.

Are Implants Guaranteed for Life?

If the implants that I applied in my own clinic do not hold or fall out for any reason after the application, they are the brands that the company provides free of charge.
