Implant Treatment

What is a Dental (dental) Implant?
implant; They are artificial tooth roots that are placed in the jawbone, usually made of titanium material. These tooth roots are long-lasting and life-long screws used to support prostheses. For patients who are in good general health, have healthy gums and have enough bone to support the implants in the jawbone, and perform good oral care, implant application is the first choice of dentists to replace the lost tooth. In some patients, excessive bone loss and the jawbone may not be suitable for implant placement. In such cases, bone transplantation can be performed for implant placement with advanced medical applications. Implants can be applied to people who have lost a single tooth, as well as to people who have lost all their teeth. These treatments should be applied by specialist dentists in a sterile environment, using sterile materials.

How is Dental Implant Application Made?
First, panoramic dental films of the patient are taken. If necessary, 3D tomography is taken. In this way, important information such as the nerve endings of the teeth in the mouth and the position of the tooth in the jawbone are obtained. After the diameter and length of the implant to be made are selected, the area to be implanted is anesthetized with local anesthesia so that our patients do not feel pain. Generally, the amount of anesthesia we do for tooth extraction is sufficient. After anesthesia, the gingiva is lifted, then a small slot is opened to allow the implant to enter the jawbone.

The implant is fixed by screwing into the slot opened in the jawbone, and then a protective cover is placed on the implant with a screw in order for the implant to ossify and to accelerate the healing time of the implanted area. The opened gingiva is closed with sutures. Afterwards, a recovery period of two to three months is recognized. After the waiting period is over, an impression is taken and teeth made of zirconium, emax press or porcelain are made on the dental implant.

Will I Have Pain While Implant Placement?

Since the area is anesthetized before the implant application, there is no pain during the operation. If you take the painkillers recommended by your doctor after the numbness has passed, you will get through the post-operative period very easily. Many patients state that this pain is not different from the pain felt after normal tooth extraction.

Will my face swell a lot after dental implant operation?

As long as the physician's recommendations are followed before and after the procedure, the process is easily overcome. In cases where bone thickness and width are sufficient, swelling and pain do not occur or are minimal, especially after implant operations performed without suture (without flap removal) and without opening the gingiva. There may be slight swelling or color changes on the cheek after the gingival removal (stitched) implant applications. Ice application on the first day reduces swelling, severe pain is not seen. Painkillers recommended by the doctor are sufficient to easily control the pain that may occur on the first day.

I am very afraid of implant treatment, how can I have it done?

Contrary to popular belief, implant treatments are treatments that can be applied in a very short time and painlessly. However, patients may be afraid of the operation when they watch the implant operation videos before the procedure. In patients who are very afraid and do not want to hear even the sounds of the operation, implant application can be performed painlessly, under sedation or general anesthesia. Thus, when our patients recover from the effect of anesthesia, they do not even realize that any procedure is being done.

To Whom Can Implant Treatment Be Applied?

Although implant treatment can be applied to people of almost all ages, it is very important that the patients who will be implanted have completed their jaw development. Implant treatment can be used to fix the prosthesis in patients using removable or fixed prostheses. Implants can be applied to any patient who has lost their teeth for various reasons (caries, trauma, excessive bone loss around the teeth, etc.). In some cases, the amount of bone is not sufficient for implant placement. If the bone loss is excessive, advanced techniques can be applied and the implants can be placed by providing the appropriate infrastructure for implant placement. Although cigarette consumption in implant treatment is one of the factors that reduce the success of the treatment, it does not constitute an obstacle for implant construction .

What should be considered after the implant is made?

  1. The pads placed on the implanted area should be bitten for 30 minutes. If the bleeding has stopped after 30 minutes, it can be discarded. If the bleeding continues, a new clean tampon is bitten for another half hour. If the bleeding lasts longer, consult your doctor.

  2. Do not eat or drink anything until the numbness subsides after the implant application. Avoid hot and cold foods for the first 48-72 hours. You should consume soft and room temperature foods. Acidic fruit juices, alcoholic beverages and spicy foods should be avoided.

  3. After the implant operation, smoking should be suspended until recovery or should be reduced to 5-6 times a day. Smoking irritates the wound area and can delay healing and lead to other risks. For patients who smoke excessively, it becomes very difficult to close the sutures in the wound area.

  4. Edema may occur after the implant operation. This is quite natural. It will be useful to make ice compresses on the operation area intermittently. At the end of the first 72 hours, edema, that is, swelling, gradually decreases.

  5. Normal brushing procedures can be applied to non-operated areas. The teeth in the operation area should be brushed without touching the sutures and gingiva. Approximately two days after the surgery, you should gargle with the mouthwash recommended by your dentist, twice a day, after brushing your teeth in the morning and evening.

Physician's recommendations and recommendations should be carefully listened to and applied.

Can Implant Be Made Simultaneously With Tooth Extraction?

I apply almost eighty percent of the implants I apply at the same time as the tooth extraction. The important thing here is that there is no active infection in the root of the tooth and that the remaining bone after extraction; The implant is suitable for fixation. The advantage of implanting at the same time is that the procedure is completed in one operation. Since the implant is made from the extraction cavity, the gingiva is not opened and sutures are not placed. Thus, it is more comfortable for the patient after the operation.

Will I Be Toothless After Implant?

If it is not suitable for early prosthesis production after the implant operation, we produce temporary prostheses on the same day for our patients to use in the process until the bone connection of the implant with the temporary teeth is achieved.

How Long Does It Take To Make Teeth After Implant?

After the implant is made, we measure the bond strength of the implant to the bone, and if this value is high, we deliver the tooth to our patient on the same day. If this value is not suitable for making prosthesis on the same day, we wait three months for the implant-bone connection to be completed. At the end of three months, we move on to the prosthesis process. The prosthesis construction phase takes 5-7 days. In cases where the jawbone is insufficient and additional bone augmentation procedures are performed, we wait until the sixth month for the implant to fuse to the bone.

What material is the implant made of?

Generally, the implant material is made of titanium. There are also implants made of titanium-zirconium mixture and full zirconium. Implants are not affected by oral fluids and are designed to withstand the forces that will occur in the mouth.

Can a tooth be inserted immediately after the implant is made?
We can apply temporary and permanent teeth on the same day as the implant with implant models suitable for our patients with sufficient bone length, width and density. We measure the bond strength of the implant to the bone after applying the implant so that we can make teeth on the same day, and if this value is high, we deliver the tooth to our patient on the same day.

Can Flapless Surgery Implant Be Done?

Implants are placed in the dental bone under the gum. For this, while the gingiva can be opened completely, in our patients with sufficient bone width, we only open a gap where the implant will be placed without lifting the gingiva (flapless) and place the implant from that gap. We prepare surgical guide plates for this procedure. Thanks to these plates, we ensure that the implants are in the position we want in the jawbone.

What are the Differences Between Implant Brands, Which Implant Should I Prefer?

Differences between implants, design and surface properties of implants; affects the connection it makes with the jawbone. Different types of surface roughening techniques and different designs of implants have been developed in different implant systems. In addition, the connection systems used to make prostheses on the implant also differ between companies.      The most important point to consider when choosing an implant, especially for foreign implant companies, is how long the company has been working in Turkey. If any problem is encountered in the prosthesis after the implant is made, the company should be able to supply the necessary parts to the physician. The availability of the firm is also important in supplying implant spacers. For example, if an implant brand produced by the company x is applied to the patient, and then that company decides to withdraw from our country for commercial reasons, since the connection parts between the implant and the prosthesis are different, if there is any problem in the patient's prosthesis, healthy prostheses cannot be made for suitable parts. In order to avoid such problems, you can have certified implant applications by choosing brands that have been applied for 20-25 years. It is also very valuable to know how long the implant brand has been applied in order to see the long-term results of the product used.

Are Implants Guaranteed for Life?

If the implants that I applied in my own clinic do not hold or fall out for any reason after the application, they are the brands that the company provides free of charge.
